Thieves in Sacred Groves

Old-growth coastal redwoods–the tallest trees in the world–only exist in the Northern California region. Due to heavy logging, only a small percentage of these giants are left today. Some are being attacked. Money-hungry poachers are cutting off the burls (the knobby growths, usually at the bottom of the tree) and selling them for hundreds of dollars per slab.
